The memo presented in a way that the arm desk is not only affecting me, but it is also affecting everyone who is taking three hour class. The memo revealed arm desk as a serious issue because students less engage in the classroom and they are not performing at their full potential. Besides that, the memo convey students good health is a concern in three-hour classes; therefore, immediate action required on the arm desk. Students sitting too long without body movement can causes serious medical problems like weakened muscles and back pain.

I was writing about arm desk because classroom furniture plays an essential role in students’ performance. I realized students were uncomfortable while sitting on the arm desk because they cannot move their body. Our bodies built for movement; however, our body does not have enough movement in the classroom to increase blood circulation. It is important that human maintain good blood circulation because they will have more energy and oxygen.

The purpose of writing this memo is to persuade the college president to create comfortable class environments so that everyone can concentrate in class. The regular rule for a human being to stand up one minute in every hour so they can have enough body movement; however, arm desks are unable to fulfill human movement goals. The swivel chairs very good for students because they can change their body position as needed, chairs are adjustable in heights and they can keep their body in motion. Therefore, introducing swivel chairs will help to create a comfortable and healthy environment and students will be more engaged in class.

The audience for the memo was City College president because solution to the issue involved with spending $36,000 to 40,000; however, not everyone has the authority to spend money to solve the issue. The college president deals with the college budgets, therefore, the college president has the authority to spend money on swivel chairs to replace arm desks.

As a student of City College I felt classroom furniture is a serious issue because the end of the day students’ performance is matter most; however, due to the lack of participation students are performing poorly in class. Professors count participations toward final grades, but not enough participations in class lower down student’s final grades. In three hour class, I lost my concentration easily because sitting at one place without body movement I feel tired and less energetic.

The medium for the memo was print out text because the memo has receiver name and sender name like a letter. My memo begins with a clear statement about arm desks, then I offer a brief summary about arm desk and hinted solution. Afterward, I discuss more on the issue and offer personal anecdote and scientific evidence to support my argument. Finally, I offer a solution regarding arm desks.

One of the course learning outcomes is “enhance strategies for drafting, revising, and editing”. The assignment helps me to achieve the course learning outcomes because I usually create outlines before writing out the draft since writing down ideas were helpful. However, for the memo assignment, I used different tactic and this time I skipped outlining. I started to write down whatever comes to mind regarding arm desk without worried about the sentence structure, grammatical errors, and unnecessary information. Then, I read carefully out loud each sentence to fix all flaw and I insert important information that I missed the first time. Also, I found a new technique reading out loud very helpful because I can easily catch my grammatical errors.
