Dear Prof. Rodwell:

I am excited to let you know about my major and career goals, and I hope you will have a better understanding of me. I want to be a mechanical engineer because with a bachelor’s degree I can find jobs in almost all engineering departments such as aerospace engineering and automotive engineering, etc. Additionally, my great uncle was a famous engineer in Bangladesh. My great uncle is my idol, and he inspired me to pursue a career in engineering because I am impressed with my great uncle’s talent with designing buildings and his ability to solve any problem analytically and logically. I believe I have problem-solving quality in me and mathematics is my strongest suit. Therefore, I decided to become a mechanical engineer because the career path relates to my favorite subject and one of my dreams.

My dream is to reduce electricity problems around the world because electricity is a huge problem in many countries, personally, I had to encounter electricity problems in Bangladesh. There are many electric generators in the world right now; however, these generators are expensive and most people cannot afford to buy them. Since then I have a dream to design a simple electric generator that would require very little fossil fuel, long lasting, and easy to afford. Therefore, my short term goal is to do many internships I can before completing a bachelor’s degree because if I gain work experience from internships then companies will more likely to hire me. As a result, I can design an electric generator very soon. My long term goal is to complete a master’s degree because my parents want me to become highly educated, so I want to fulfill my parent’s dream. Also, a master’s degree can make my transition into a senior position easier; consequently, I will have authority to designs more power producing machines that will benefit everyone.

In the future, scientists and technologies will play a bigger role than now because scientists are continuously sending new technologies to the space to understand the universe better. Scientists will be more curious to know about Mars because they are looking for an alternative home for human beings. Scientists have recently figured out Mars is the only planet similar to earth and liquid water flows on Mars, so the recent findings stimulate more curiosity in scientists mind. In this instance, mechanical engineers will play an essential role because they are working on creating robots that will be smarter than human beings. In order to figure out the mystery about Mars, scientists might seek help from mechanical engineers to send robots to Mars instead of putting human life in jeopardy to solve the mystery.

The problem arises for the engineers that populations around the world increasing tremendously and consumers demand for cars, phones, and other manufacture products rising significantly. However, workers are slow to complete their task; as a result, engineers will resolve the problem by introducing robot to workplaces because they can work much faster than human beings, they are less likely to make mistakes, and robots will prevent human beings from deadly injuries.

Thank you so much for your valuable time to read this letter.

Sincerely,

Abu Sayeed
